About 50% of Arkansas' population live in rural areas. Farm and ranch families are an integral part of the fabric of most small communities. Their occupation allows them to fulfill other citizenship responsibilities.

99% of U.S. farms are owned by individuals, family parterships, or family corporations.

In most communities and rural areas, one will find farm and ranch families actively involved in community, civic, church, school, and humanitarian activities.

Many farmers and ranchers are also members of various farm and commodity organizations, producer cooperatives, and related trade associations.

In general, farmers and ranchers are active in the political process at the local, state, and national level.
